Residential development planned for Wellington St.

Brampton-based Sandhu says existing medical office building could be torn down in project's later phases, depending on market needs

More than 800 residential units could one day be built at 121 Wellington St. W., in central Barrie.

Sandhu Developments wants to build an eight- to 12-storey structure with 200 units in the project’s first phase, which is to begin in the next 18 to 24 months.

Future phases would include six-, 12- and 14-storey buildings, according to Sandhu officials, bringing the total residential units to 804 on these 3.66 acres of land alongside Highway 400.

The project would also include 4,542 square feet of indoor amenity space and 4,349 sq. ft. of outdoor space, along with two levels of underground parking.

Sandhu officials also say the existing three-storey, 39,491-sq.-ft. medical office building, known as the Medilife Medical Centre, could be torn down in later phases of the development, depending on future market needs.

Brampton-based Sandhu acquired 121 Wellington West at the end of last year.
