NEWS RELEASE
ROYAL VICTORIA REGIONAL HEALTH CENTRE
*************************
Today, Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) officially opened the Simcoe Pod, RVH’s satellite radiation therapy unit, part of the Hudson Regional Cancer Program.
The Simcoe Pod will ensure continuity of care for the region’s cancer patients as RVH begins the lengthy process of replacing three of four linear accelerators (LINACs).
Located just outside the Simcoe entrance of the health centre, the Simcoe Pod building was the first modular radiation treatment unit in Canada, operating from 2008 until the cancer centre opened in 2012.
The revitalized Simcoe Pod allows the Hudson Regional Cancer Program to continue meeting the needs of patients and creates an opportunity to add a permanent, much-needed fifth LINAC.
