TOWN OF INNISFIL

Applications are now open for the first round of the Innisfil Community Foundation Nursing Scholarship at Georgian College.
The $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student enrolled in Georgian College’s honours bachelor of science nursing degree, with preference given to students who have graduated from an Innisfil secondary school. Innisfil Community Foundation will provide $2,000 annually to incoming nursing students at Georgian College for the next five years.
“The pandemic highlighted the gaps in our health-care system and showed just how deeply we rely on registered nurses to care for our community,” said Sandra Rizzardo, chair, Innisfil Community Foundation board of directors. “We’re proud to offer this scholarship to support local youth and help build homegrown health-care heroes.”
The new stand-alone four-year program at Georgian College was announced last fall, giving students the opportunity to obtain this highly sought-after degree closer to home. Registered nursing will be the fastest-growing occupation in central Ontario this decade as health-care providers across our region will need to hire 4,300 nurses to accommodate growth and retirements.
“Our expectation is, by having students study and experience their hands-on practice locally, they’ll remain in our communities after graduation to continue to provide the highly skilled compassionate care that’s so urgently needed,” said Kevin Weaver, president and CEO, Georgian College. “The Innisfil Community Foundation Nursing Scholarship will help prepare local students for success as we work together to strengthen and support the delivery of quality health care throughout our region.”
Students entering the bachelor of science in nursing at Georgian College this fall are encouraged to apply for the scholarship between now and Sept. 30. For more information visit www.georgiancollege.ca/finance-and-fees/awards.
