Serious motorcycle crash closes Mapleview Drive

A motorcycle collided with a car pulling out of a restaurant parking lot just east of Veteran’s Drive in Barrie at around 3:30 p.m. Bystanders tended to the driver of the motorcycle, who suffered serious injuries, before paramedics arrived

Mapleview Drive West was closed this afternoon due to a serious multi-vehicle crash which left a motorcycle driver in life-threatening condition.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., a motorcycle collided with a car pulling out of a restaurant parking lot just east of Veteran’s Drive in Barrie.

Bystanders from other vehicles at the scene of the collision were seen giving the driver of the motorcycle chest compressions until firefighters and paramedics arrived a short time later.

“He passed us on the right-hand side, as we were going eastbound together,” Tyson Carroll, a driver who witnessed the crash, told BarrieToday at the scene.

He said the driver of a white car was starting to pull out of a restaurant onto Mapleview Drive West, when the motorcycle driver tried to avoid her.

“He immediately hit the front driver’s side and he flipped straight over and landed where he is. He went a good 20 feet.”

Carroll stayed with his vehicle as traffic was oncoming and called 911, while his female passenger “tried to help him immediately. She was feeling for a pulse.”

Police and firefighters closed Mapleview Drive West in both directions, while paramedics tended to the man before taking him away in an ambulance.

Police still had the road closed as of 5:50 p.m. No information as to when the road is expected to reopen was provided.

BarrieToday will publish more information as it becomes available.
