if Simcoe County gets its way, Barr's Motel will be converted to a supportive housing project.

Simcoe County has issued a clarification regarding the status of talks pertaining to a supportive housing proposal.

In a meeting last week, Warden Gerry Marshall announced the addresses the county is looking to acquire, after county council authorized staff to enter into formal talks.

The county would like it to be clear that while the location of the proposed development has been announced — 164 Essa Road and 170 Essa Road, located south of Anne Street and north of Fairview Road — negotiations are not yet complete to acquire two properties in Barrie.

Normally, municipalities negotiate in private and do not reveal property acquisitions until the deals are closed, as the Municipal Act allows.

The county is examining its procedures to ensure such a reveal doesn't recur prematurely.

Simcoe County is also involved in another land acquisition in Barrie. The location for an emergency services campus — a partnership that includes Barrie – is still under wraps.
