Greg Greene was happy to entertain hundreds of visitors outside his Angus home on the weekend.
The self-proclaimed "Christmas light extraordinaire" has delighted passersby for the past few years, but this holiday season he has created the biggest and best light display ever.
He flipped the switch at 5:30 p.m. Friday, and by the end of the first evening, close to 300 pounds of food had been collected, along with cash donations for the Angus Food Bank.
"We would like to thank everyone who came out tonight to see the opening night for the 2015 light display," Greene said. "The support and generosity of the community as a whole has been absolutely unbelievable.
"Tonight has been the biggest night in the history of the light show with the largest turnout and donation count ever for one night."
Hundreds of people visited the display in Angus on the first weekend; many local residents, while others travelled from across Simcoe County and as far away as Brampton, Toronto and Hamilton.
Cash and non-perishable food can be placed in the donation box is located in front of the display at 4 Berkar St. in Angus
Greene's goal is to eclipse $5,000 in cash.
“We get thousands upon thousands of visitors to the display every year and this will be the largest we have ever had with well over 120,000 lights all synchronized to music,” he said.
Inspired by his daughter's desire to raise money, Greene started building this year's display on September 1 and he says he finished just in time to flip the switch on November 27.
The display will run Friday and Saturday from 5:30 to 11 and Sunday to Thursday 5;30 to 9:30.
"It's a lot of fun," Greene said, as he greeted spectators on Saturday. "Once it is over it will be time to start planning next year."
