Gates & Boards, the industry-leading, family-owned and -operated independent ski and snowboard shop has announced they have moved to a larger location at 571 Bayfield St., just across the street from their previous location.
A ribbon-cutting to celebrate the new grand opening will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 5 at 10 a.m. The mayor of Barrie, Jeff Lehman, and local MP Doug Shipley will be in attendance as well as key suppliers, sponsored athletes, and customers. For the balance of the week, an open house for customers will be held, with door prizes, draws and giveaways in celebration of the move.
Established in 1997 as the full-service ski and snowboard leader in Barrie, the new location has over 4,600 square feet of high-end skis, snowboards, as well as apparel and accessories. Employing 12 local staff, many of whom have been with the business for over 10 years, owners Arn and Alison Schubert have been deeply ingrained in the ski business since they met at a Toronto ski retailer in the 1990s. They decided to make the move to Barrie by purchasing Gates & Greens and reinventing it as Gates & Boards.
“We are pretty excited to be renewing our commitment to Barrie and the amazing community we’ve built over the last 24 years," said Arn Schubert, owner of Gates & Boards. “This new space, which we’ve renovated with our customers in mind, will provide a superior shopping experience so whether you are a passionate veteran or an adventurous novice, we are here to assist you with all your ski, snowboard and winter lifestyle needs.”
Gates & Boards represents over 100 ski and snowboard suppliers, including popular brands like Rossignol, Salomon, Burton and many others. Individual customer service is at the forefront of the shop’s philosophy. Gates & Boards also has an online shop here. The family-owned business has been a proud member of the Barrie community since 1997.
