Sweeping up the city

City street sweepers out in force on Tuesday; arterial roads done first, followed by residential streets

Street-sweeping operations are underway throughout Barrie.

Street sweeping usually takes about 10 weeks to complete.

Arterial roads are done first, followed by residential streets.

The city’s road operations department conducts its annual street sweeping to clean all streets of sand deposited during winter road maintenance, as well as other debris.

Spring street sweeping also improves water quality and helps the environment by removing pollutants that can be transferred to down-stream water bodies through urban runoff into the storm-sewer system.
