A swim advisory for Centennial Beach in Barrie has been lifted following the results of new water samples.

The City of Barrie announced Thursday afternoon that the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has recommended the advisory be cancelled.

"The bacteriological results from samples taken on Aug. 16, 2023 are within the acceptable range for recreational water use," according to a notice from the city. "Environmental compliance staff will be removing the signs from the beach."

The swim advisory was announced on Tuesday based on water sample results from Monday.

During a swim advisory, signs are posted to indicate recent water samples show bacteria levels that may increase risk of developing minor skin, eye, ear, nose or throat infections or stomach illness.

If you choose to swim during an advisory, health officials recommend you avoid dunking your head or swallowing the water.
