PEMAC Asset Management Association of Canada honoured Nigel D’Souza with the Sergio Guy Memorial Award during its recent PEMAC Awards ceremony held in Saint John, N.B., as part of the MainTrain conference.

The ceremony celebrated excellence in the maintenance, reliability and asset management profession.

This highly regarded award is named after one of the visionary individuals who laid the foundation for the organization and made significant contributions to the profession.

Prior to his early and untimely passing, Sergio was highly regarded both personally and professionally for his values, ethics, and commitment. He dedicated many hours in the early days of the association helping to develop the first member database to manage the business aspects of the association.

Nigel D’Souza, manager of facilities services at the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board in Barrie, and current president of the PEMAC board of directors, exemplifies all these qualities. He has been a member and volunteering with PEMAC in a variety of roles for over a decade, including as Greater Toronto Area chapter president, contributor to the Global Forum on Maintenance and Asset Management (GFMAM)’s Asset Management Landscape review and revision teams for the third edition of the resource, mentor, and many other vital roles.

“Nigel lives asset management and brings others along for the ride. He demonstrates this through his teams’ achievements as well as his commitment to progress within PEMAC and GFMAM. He has the rare ability to be process-minded but still be creative and innovative. He is direct and assertive while being polite and humble. He’s always ‘on’ and always willing to help. He makes commitments and follows through,” states one of his peers on the PEMAC board of directors.

“I am truly honoured and humbled to be recognized with such a prestigious award. My journey and my career have been guided by the incredible people I have had the privilege of working with. Contributing to and participating in various PEMAC initiatives has been instrumental in my growth, rewarding me with opportunities to collaborate, share knowledge, and gain insights from this community of industry leaders. I look forward to continuing this journey, striving for excellence in asset management, and making a positive impact in society and the economy,” shares Nigel.
