Barrie North Collegiate students took advantage of some beautiful weather on Tuesday for their Wellness in the City events.
A grant from the Ministry of Education and strong partnerships within the community provided students with the opportunity to tap into activities and experiences that promote well-being.
Building on the previous year’s Wellness Retreat at Springwater Park, this year students headed out to multiple locations for an opportunity to “de-stress.”
Locations included a return to Springwater Park, but also introduce the Barrie Native Friendship Centre, Alt Rock, Urban Pantry, Georgian College, Barrie YMCA, East Bayfield Community Centre, Barrie’s waterfront, Sunnidale Park and Barrie North’s own campus.
More than 1,000 students signed up for activities such as yoga, bouldering, Zumba, drama games, gardening, open gym, cooking, geocaching, mountain biking, adventure hiking, reading, Indigenous martial arts and mindfulness.
The goal of Wellness in the City is to show that affordable opportunities to “be well” exist right in our neighbourhood.
