Barrie blue-liners ranked ahead of 2025 NHL Draft

Kashawn Aitcheson slotted No. 15 among North American skaters, while teammate Evan Passmore comes in at No. 55 in mid-term rankings

Two defencemen from the Ontario Hockey League's Barrie Colts find themselves listed in Central Scouting's mid-term rankings ahead of the 2025 NHL Draft in Los Angeles.

Kashawn Aitcheson is ranked No. 15 among North American skaters, while teammate Evan Passmore comes in to No. 55.

Barrie goalie Ben Hrebik, who was named OHL goaltender of the month for December, is ranked No. 10 among North American netminders.

Standing six-foot-one and weighing 198 pounds, Aitcheson has 11 goals and 15 assists in 36 games this season, which is his third year in Barrie. The 18-year-old Toronto native also has 58 penalty minutes and a plus-3 rating. Last year, he had eight goals and 31 assists in 64 games, as well as 126 penalty minutes and a minus-1 rating. He also scored one goal and added three helpers in six playoff games last season. 

Passmore, who hails from Elmira, Ont., has three goals and five assists in 34 games this season with the Colts, his second year in Barrie. He also has 26 penalty minutes and holds a plus-10 rating. Last season, the 18-year-old had no goals and four helpers in 53 games. Listed at six-foot-four and 210 pounds, he was held pointless in six playoff games last spring. 

Hrebik, 18, who is from Milton, Ont., has been solid for the Colts, holding a 12-4-1 record with a 2.37 goals-against average and a stellar .932 save percentage. He also has one shutout in 18 games played this season. He appeared in only two games with the Colts last season. Hrebik stands six-foot-four and tips the scales at 199 pounds. 

The Canadian Hockey League announced today that 174 players from its member clubs (OHL, WHL and QMJHL) have been listed in the NHL Central Scouting’s midterm rankings, which is the most of any development hockey league in the world. Click here for the full list. 

Erie Otters defenceman Matthew Schaefer is the top-ranked North American skater, followed by Saginaw Spirit forward Michael Misa at No. 3 and Brampton Steelheads forward Porter Martone at No. 4. 

Former Colts winger Shamar Moses, who was dealt to the North Bay Battalion in October as part of the Dalyn Wakely trade, is ranked No. 71 among North American skaters. He has nine goals and 23 assists in 31 games this season with the Troops. 

Alliston native Lirim Amidovski, who also plays for the Battalion, is ranked No. 85, while Barrie native Jake Crawford, who plays for the Owen Sound Attack, slots in at No. 98.

The NHL Draft is typically held in late June, but no dates have been confirmed.
