It almost seemed inevitable that Barrie North and Bear Creek would meet for the Simcoe County Athletics Association (SCAA) senior football crown.
And here we are.
The SCAA semifinal games were played Monday afternoon, with the top-seeded and undefeated Barrie North Vikings (8-0) hosting Innisfil's Nantyr Shores Tritons (4-4). The second-seed Bear Creek Kodiaks (7-1) faced the Maple Ridge Ravens (5-3) in the other semifinal game.
The Vikings, continuing with their strong defensive play, blanked the Tritons, 35-0, this afternoon, while the Kodiaks secured a 23-15 victory at home over the Ravens.
And the Vikings and Kodiaks won't have to wait long to go head-to-head for SCAA glory. They will meet on Friday for the SCAA senior title. Game time is 11 a.m. at the artificial-turf field at Maple Ridge Secondary School on Prince William Way in the city's south end.
The winner of that game will advance to play for the Georgian Bay Secondary Schools Association (GBSSA) championship against the victors from the Catholic School Athletics of Simcoe County (CSASC) loop.
The Catholic board's senior championship game will take place Friday evening, beginning at 6:30 p.m., at Georgian College's J.C. Massie Field. That game will see Barrie's St. Joan of Arc Knights taking on their north-end rivals, the St. Joseph's Jaguars. Both teams will bring 6-1 records into the match-up.
The GBSSA title game is set for 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14 at Maple Ridge.
