NEWS RELEASE
BARRIE WRESTLING
*************************
An event a decade in the making for Barrie Wrestling happens this Saturday and will be a celebration of pro wrestling.
10 Years of Barrie Wrestling: Still Enjoying the Journey takes place Saturday, Nov. 2 at 49 Ferris Lane with a 5 p.m. bell time.
The family-friendly pro wrestling company had their first event ever back on Nov. 1, 2014, and they have been running strong ever since, expanding into Kempenfest and the Downtown Barrie BIA Canada Day celebrations. There have been three shows at the former Mavricks Music Hall, an event at the Barrie Native Friendship Centre and a few in Orillia, along the way.
Barrie Wrestling owner Shawn Gibson says that the promotion has become much more than a wrestling company.
“As cliché as it sounds, this has become a family atmosphere for fans, crew and wrestlers,” said Gibson. “My wife and I get Christmas cards from fans, and I run into people all the time who yell across the street that can’t wait until the next show. It’s a wonderful thing to be a part of.”
Barrie Wrestling has also helped charities in Barrie such as Christmas Cheer and initiatives at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre.
For this Saturday’s event, it will be a mix of hard-hitting action, fun and humour that fans have become accustomed to.
TNA wrestling star and Barrie Wrestling original Jody Threat returns to take on European talent Sweet Boy MBM.
With being available on worldwide streaming service IWTV, Barrie Wrestling is able to host an IWTV tag team title match as champions Fresh Air defend against KPK.
Three Pistols champion and Orillia’s own Van Landon will defend his title and the very popular Flatliners have their first match in a Barrie Wrestling ring in over six years.
Barrie Wrestling Heavyweight champion, the hated Clay Wilson, leads a team of his Henchmen to face off against a team led by popular Pretty Ricky in a classic Survivor Series-style elimination match.
The two men who wrestled each other in the very first match in the company’s history will be in action separately, as Vaughn Vertigo hold his eighth annual open invitational (anyone can show up) and the most decorated wrestler in Barrie Wrestling history, Gabriel Fuerza, faces the evil Rajan Husher.
Massively popular Anthony Musso takes on former friend Myung Jae Lee.
Also, Rock 95’s Ben McCully debuts his new wrestling talk show, Open Mic with McCully.
Fans in attendance will get first crack at tickets for the huge Dec. 7 Christmas show, which is always considered the craziest event of the year.
With front row and second row sold out, general-admission seats are available by contacting Barrie Wrestling on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and email ([email protected]).
General-admission tickets ($20) can also be purchased at OMG Games and Doug Laurie Sports and Auctions. Tickets at the door are $5 extra, and this event will sell out.
As always, Domino’s pizza, pop and chips will be available for purchase, as will Barrie Wrestling merchandise and that of the wrestlers.
As are all Barrie Wrestling shows, Saturday will be filmed for international streaming service IWTV and locally for Rogers TV Barrie.
Some shows and matches can be found on the Barrie Wrestling YouTube channel as can the new weekly series, Barrie Wrestling Rush Hour.
