TORONTO – Barrie pushed Toronto to the brink with a 4-3 win Saturday at Christie Pits.

Hayden Jaco had two hits, two RBI and a stolen base for the Baycats, who lead the best-of-five series 2-0 and host Game 3 on Sunday.

Brandon Hernandez singled, doubled and drove in a run, and Malik Williams went 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Cesar Rosado (1-0) started on the mound and struck out 11 over seven innings. He allowed a run on four hits and six walks.

Carlos Sano earned the two-inning save, giving up two runs on one hit with three strikeouts.

Justin Marra singled, homered and drove in two for the Leafs. Jose Vinicio and Jordan Castaldo both singled and stole a base.

Wilgenis Alvarado (0-1) gave up four runs on seven hits in 7.1 innings. He walked two and struck out 12.

Jackfish one win from second round

WELLAND – Welland is one win from advancing to the second round after a 16-1 win over Kitchener on Saturday afternoon.

Robert Mullen led the way offensively, going 3-for-5 with a home run and five RBI as the Jackfish leads the best-of-five series 2-1. Steven Moretto and Ethan Hunt each had two hits and two RBI, Tyler Dupuis and Dawson Tweet each drove in a run on two hits, Jonah Weisner went 2-for-4 with an RBI and three runs, Matteo Porcellato went 3-for-6 with an RBI, and Gianfranco Morello and Jake Sanford both drove in a run.

Enrique Saldana (1-0) gave up an unearned run over eight two-hit innings for the win. He walked two and struck out three.

Panthers’ starter Pedro De Los Santos (0-1) was charged with eight runs (four earned) on nine hits and two walks in two innings.

Nick Parsons had three of Kitchener’s four hits. The Panthers will try to extend their season Tuesday at home.

Cards even series with Majors

HAMILTON – Luis Bernardo went 4-for-5 with five RBI and three runs in Hamilton’s 16-2 win Saturday at home over London.

The best-of-five series is tied 1-1 with Game 3 Sunday at Labatt Park.

7Stephen Whalen singled three times and drove in three, Rikelbin DeCastro doubled and drove in two, Tyler Duncan had two hits and two RBI, Dennis Dei Baning singled, doubled and drove in a run, while Andrew Johnston, Brendon Daley and Keelor Loveridge each had an RBI and combined to score six runs.

Mizuki Akatsuka (1-0) struck out eight over seven innings for the win. He yielded an unearned run.

Brad Verhoeven drove in a run on two hits for London. Kaiden Cardoso singled twice.

Majors’ starting pitcher Travis Keys gave up six runs on eight hits over five innings. He walked three and fanned five.

Royals score late to take Game 2

CHATHAM – Conner Morro scored on a wild pitch in the seventh inning for the go-ahead run in Guelph’s 7-5 win Saturday in Chatham.

The Royals lead the best-of-five series 2-0 and can advance with a victory at home Sunday night.

Morro finished with two hits and two steals. Andy Leader homered to lead off the game, and Garrett Takamatsu and Ethan Hammond each drove in two runs. Josh Garton had two hits and an RBI, and Frankin Torres singled twice.

Royals’ reliever David Durst picked up the win with 3.2 scoreless innings of relief. He fanned five. Starting pitcher Jacob Kush gave up two earned runs on four hits with eight strikeouts over five innings.

Sadler Goodwin hit a two-run blast for the Barnstormers. Daniel Battel had two hits and an RBI.

Nik Cardinal (0-1) was saddled with the loss after giving up an unearned run in one inning. Brock Whitson started and went 3.1 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
