Canadian Cedric Fofana earns gold medal at Dresden diving competition

DRESDEN, Germany — Cedric Fofana of Quebec City won a gold medal Sunday in the boys one-metre event at the Dresden International diving competition.

Fofana won the boys 14-15 age group with 420.00 points. Tyler Humphreys of Britain was second with 395.30 while Bram Meulendyks of the Netherlands was third at 391.85.

''I had an average week so it was nice to have a good finish,'' said Fofana, who was also fourth in the three-metre and 11th on platform this weekend. ''I really wanted it more today.

"I was more focused than in the other two events.''

Canada finished the competition with three medals. On Saturday, Victor Povzner of Maple, Ont., and Henry McKay of Ottawa took gold in the men's three-metre synchro and Povzner also won bronze in the one-metre Friday.
