Barrie police closed a section of Ferndale Drive last night following a fatal motorcycle crash. Police say a 39-year-old Barrie man was killed.

City police say a 39-year-old Barrie man was killed in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash yesterday evening on Ferndale Drive North near the city landfill.

The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene after the motorcycle he was operating left the roadway and “struck a fixed object,” according to police.

The investigation, which is being conducted by the department's traffic unit, remains ongoing.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or has dash-camera video, to contact the investigating officer at [email protected].

Police said they are specifically looking for any video or witnesses who may have observed a dark-coloured four-door Subaru travelling in the left-hand passing lane, and a red motorcycle travelling in the curbside's right lane, on Ferndale Drive North, near the entrance to the city’s landfill site.

Police responded to the call at 6:10 p.m. on June 12.

Ferndale Drive was closed between Edgehill Drive and Benson Drive for a lengthy period of time.
