Barrie police caution public after arrests near downtown

Residents in the area of Dunlop, Henry and Boys streets asked to check their property for any unknown substances or weapons

City police conducted a raid near downtown Barrie on Wednesday afternoon, apprehending two people near Dunlop Street West and Boys Street North.

The arrests happened around 1 p.m. on May 1.

Police also released a plea on social media at 4:15 p.m. asking people who reside in the area of Dunlop, Henry and Boys streets "to check their property for any unknown substances or weapons that may have been discarded. Please call 911 immediately if anything is located."

“It’s a Barrie police-related investigation which is in the early stages and we have two in custody,” Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday.

A canine unit and tactical officers could be seen involved in the arrests.

Police aren’t saying if the operation was related to a recent attempt to arrest a wanted person on April 23 in the downtown area where police came up empty-handed.
