Barrie police, OPP team up to arrest six in drug sweep

Cocaine, fentanyl, oxycodone and methamphetamine all seized along with $30K in fake cash and $7,500 in currency; local residents charged

OPP seized a large quantity of drugs, $7,500 in cash, $30,000 in counterfeit money, a replica firearm and drug-related items during a bust in Barrie.

A joint investigation between Orillia OPP and Barrie city police has led to the seizure of drugs, counterfeit money and Canadian currency after three warrants were executed on Wednesday.

The community street crime units from Barrie police, Orillia OPP, Dufferin OPP and Huronia West OPP, along with members of the Barrie Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, Windsor Police Drug Unit and Orillia OPP uniform members, arrested six people in Barrie. All of the suspects are now facing multiple charges.

Police say the investigation began in April when Orillia OPP received information that led to a drug-trafficking investigation, which resulted in today's search warrants in Barrie.

Tysen Budha-Johnston, 24, from Barrie, has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine CDSA 5(2)
  • Trafficking Schedule 1 substance - cocaine CDSA 5(1)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance - opioid CDSA 4(1)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC)
  • Possessing counterfeit money CC 450(b)
  • Failure to comply with release order CC 145(5)(a)

Budha-Johnston was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Tyler Southerland, 33, from Orillia, has been charged with:

  • Trafficking Schedule 1 substance - methamphetamines CDSA 5(1)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance - methamphetamine CDSA 4(1)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 CC 354(1)(a)

Southerland was released on an undertaking with a future court date.

Adrian Humphrey, 26, of no fixed address, has been charged with:

  • Trafficking Schedule 1 substance - cocaine CDSA 5(1)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine CDSA 5(2)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid CDSA 5(2)
  • Possession of proceed of property obtained by crime over $5,000 CC 354(1)(a)

Humphrey was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Natalie Arnouk, 25, from Windsor, has been charged with:

  • Trafficking Schedule 1 substance - cocaine CDSA 5(1)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine CDSA 5(2)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid CDSA 5(2)
  • Possession of proceed of property obtained by crime over $5,000 CC 354(1)(a)

Arnouk was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Shawn Cromwell, 36, from Barrie, was also arrested on unrelated, outstanding charges. The accused was held pending a bail hearing.

None of the allegations against any of the accused have been tested in court and they are considered innocent unless proven guilty.

Police say the following items were seized:

  • 959 grams of cocaine
  • 175 grams of fentanyl
  • 10 oxycodone pills
  • 2.7 grams of methamphetamine
  • $30 000 in counterfeit Canadian currency
  • $7,500 in Canadian currency
  • Replica firearm
  • Digital scales and drug packaging materials
  • Cellular devices
