Barrie woman charged with child abandonment

After telling officers that she needed to get home, police responded to the woman's home and located a one-year-old child that had been left alone

INNISFIL - On Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, around 5:40 a.m., South Simcoe Police Service officers were called to an Alcona coffee shop for an (alleged) intoxicated patron. Officers located a woman, not dressed for the cold weather, who was taken to the station to sober up.

While in custody, the woman told officers that she needed to get home to Barrie to care for her one-year-old child. Barrie Police officers responded to the woman's home and located a one-year-old child that had been left alone. The suspect, a 19-year-old woman from Barrie, was turned over to Barrie Police. She was charged with child abandonment and possession of marijuana. The child was in good health and turned over to a responsible family member.
