Provincial police have finally confirmed they have identified the human bones found in the woods off Highway 26 in Wasaga Beach, but say they will not be releasing the name of the person they belonged to.
Huronia West OPP announced today that the bones belonged to a person reported missing in July 2020, but foul play is not suspected.
The bones were discovered on May 24, 2023 at about 3:30 p.m. by a land surveyor working in a wooded area about 200 metres off Highway 26 in Wasaga Beach.
The post-mortem examination confirmed they were the bones of the person who went missing three years ago.
"Out of respect for the family's privacy, we are not releasing the name of the deceased," the OPP stated in a news release on Wednesday.
Huronia West OPP spokesperson Const. Lindsay Griffin said police will not be providing any more details on the deceased person.
