Break and enter suspect facing multiple charges

On Thursday, April 19, 2018 Barrie Police Service received a call for a break and enter that occurred some time the previous weekend. The victim, who was away from his house for few days, returned to find some items missing and a neighbour reported speaking to someone who claimed to be a friend stopping by to check on the house. 

It is believed the suspect entered the house located on Yonge Street near Little Avenue, in the City of Barrie, on Sunday, April 15, 2018. The victim immediately suspected who had entered his house and made a phone call to confirm. The male suspect admitted to the break and enter claiming the items were collateral on a previous debt owed. 

On Friday, April 20, 2018 the Barrie Police Street Crime Unit, along with assistance from Uniform Patrol, arrested the 33-year-old Barrie male. At the time of his arrest he was found to be in possession of 5lbs of Cannabis Marijuana, 28g of Cannabis Resin (Hashish), 3.9oz of Cocaine, as well as additional drug paraphernalia. The street value of drugs seized as a result of this arrest exceeds $14, 500.00. 

A short time later the Barrie Police Street Crime Unit, with further assistance from Uniform Patrol, executed a search warrant at the suspects residence in the area of Little Avenue and Huronia Road, in the City of Barrie, where much of the stolen property was located.  

The 33-year-old Barrie man was charged with:

  • Break & enter with intent to commit theft
  • Possession of stolen property
  • Breach of recognizance
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking - cannabis marijuana
  • Possession of cannabis marijuana 
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking - cannabis resin
  • Possession of cannabis resin
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • Possession of cocaine

He was held at the Barrie Police Service pending a bail hearing to answer to his charges. The stolen property recovered during the search warrant was returned to the victim.
