Barrie police were called to a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon on Ellis Drive in the city's south end. The collision involved a car and a transport truck. Both drivers were sent to local hospital and one was later airlifted to a Toronto hospital.

Barrie police are looking for witnesses to a serious crash that took place in the city’s south end yesterday afternoon.

The crash took place at the intersection of Welham Road and Ellis Drive around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11. It involved an sport-utility vehicle and a transport truck.

Both drivers were taken to local hospital, police noted last night, however the driver of the SUV, a 30-year-old Barrie woman, was later airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre with serious, life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is being conducted by members of the Barrie police traffic unit, who were assisted by the forensic identification unit, tactical support unit and uniform officers. This resulted in the roads being closed until approximately 9:30 p.m. to allow for the on-scene investigation.

“Police have determined that a sport-utility vehicle was travelling northbound on Welham Road when it was struck by a westbound, flatbed-style truck," according to a news release police. "The resulting collision sent both drivers to local hospital."

Police say they are looking at the possibility of charges related to the collision.

“We are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dash-cam footage,” Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday.

When asked if charges were pending, Leon said, “that is something police are looking at, yes."

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone who may have witnessed it or was travelling in the area and has dash-camera video that can assist investigators is asked to contact the investigating officer at [email protected].
