Orillia man arrested in child porn investigation

ORILLIA - Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Child Sexual Exploitation Unit assisted by the Orillia OPP detachment have arrested and charged an Orillia man following a three-week child pornography investigation.

In May 2017, the OPP Child Sexual Exploitation Unit commenced an investigation after receiving information from the Waterloo Regional Police Service in regards to a suspect believed to be making available child pornography on the internet.

On May 31, 2017 OPP members from the Child Sexual Exploitation Unit, the Technological Crime Unit and the Orillia Detachment executed a search warrant at an Orillia home.   

Derek Nicholson, 22 years old of Orillia, was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of child pornography, one count of making available child pornography and one count of accessing child pornography.

The accused was held in custody. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie Ontario today, June 1, 2017.

The investigation is continuing.
