Members of the Southern Georgian Bay detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched at 7:52 p.m. on Feb. 19, 2020 to investigate a possible fraud being committed at an Midland automotive dealership.
Staff at the dealership contacted the OPP after they noted issues in the financing documentation prior to the customer leaving the lot with a shiny new $70,000 vehicle.
Attending officers upon speaking with the customer entered into a fraud investigation resulting in Rebecca Lynn Edelenbos, 26 years old of Collingwood, being charged with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada:
- Fraud over $5,000
- Obtaining by false pretence - over obstruct peace officer personation with intent (identity fraud)
The accused was held in custody to appear before the bail court in Barrie and will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on March 5, 2020.
