Barrie police investigators hope public tips will lead them to a driver who struck a citizen and a couple of emergency vehicles with his vehicle Tuesday night in the city’s south end.
Police were called to the St. Louis Bar and Grill, located at 350 Big Bay Point Rd., last night after a dispute in the parking lot led to a man being pinned against a vehicle by another driver.
Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday the incident then escalated further.
“Two men were talking in the parking lot and about to say their goodbyes when a third (person) interjected for a reason unknown," he said. "That man got into his vehicle and pinned one of the other men against a vehicle before speeding off.
“Police were called and observed the suspect heading west on Big Bay Point toward Fairview Road and, at that point, the police vehicle was struck by this fleeing vehicle," Leon added.
The fleeing vehicle then struck an ambulance that was en route to the initial call for service, he said.
No one was seriously injured, but Leon said police are still looking for the suspect. Charges at this point include three counts of failure to remain at the scene of a collision, failure to stop for police, and assault with a weapon.
The suspect is described as a man in his late 20s or early 30s, standing between five-foot-nine and five-foot-11, and weighing 150 to 170 pounds. He has short black hair with a beard and appeared to have a tattoo on the back of his neck.
At the time, police say he was driving a maroon Chevy Equinox.
