On Thursday, April 12, 2018, South Simcoe Police Service Emergency Communicators received four awards at the 11th Annual Simcoe County 9-1-1 Management Board Tri-Service Public Safety Communications Awards. The awards were handed out at a ceremony at the Simcoe County Museum that was attended by family members, dignitaries and numerous Emergency Services leaders including South Simcoe Police Service Chief Andrew Fletcher and Police Board Chair Rod Hicks.
Here are the award recipients and the calls involved:
Team 1: Susan Bolam, Jennifer Columbus, Dana Corporon and Melissa Macdonald.
This team was nominated for the excellent work done in responding to the April 15, 2017 incident involving a lost toddler. Thanks to the efforts of the team, the toddler was safely reunited with family.
Team 2: Susan Bolam, Ashley Gray, Melissa Macdonald, Caitlin Summers and Holleigh Vella.
This team was nominated for the excellent work responding to the large residential construction fire in Bradford West Gwillimbury on Jan. 6, 2017. Thanks to the work of this team, residents were safely evacuated.
Team 3: Ambar Kottick and Karen Struthers.
This team was nominated for the excellent work engaging with the Toronto Police, the York Regional Police and the Ontario Provincial Police in response to a dangerous police chase, involving gunshots, that took place on Highway 400 on June 28, 2017.
Team 4: Mandy Burns, Jennifer Columbus, Dana Corporon and Kirsty Tamaki.
This team was nominated for its extraordinary efforts in response to a kayaker who had overturned in Lake Simcoe on Nov. 6, 2017. Thanks to their tireless and creative efforts, the kayaker was safely located.
