Fire crews battle blaze at former private hospital in Penetang

Area residents asked to avoid area Church Street area as firefighters deal with structure fire at Beechwood building

Provincial police are urging residents to avoid the area around 58 Church St., in Penetanguishene, as firefighters deal with an engulfed structure fire Monday afternoon.

Village Media has reached out to joint Midland-Penetanguishene Fire Chief Richard Renaud for comment on the possible cause and whether the fire's considered suspicious.

Crews were called to a suspicious fire at the same property in May. That time, a working sprinkler system limited damage at the vacant building.

The property once housed the Beechwood private hospital.

Village Media will have more details as they become available.
