A fire at the Audrey Milligan Park and Pond homeless encampment yesterday afternoon in Barrie resulted in no injuries.
Firefighters were called to the encampment, which is located just off Boys Street South in the Anne and Dunlop street area, at approximately 4:40 p.m.
A tent, a couch, personal belongings and other various items burned, said Deputy Fire Chief Carrie Clark.
“It was materials, combustibles, someone’s campsite,” she told BarrieToday.
The fire’s cause is unknown.
“It’s really hard to determine because there are so many sources of ignition,” Clark said. “So it’s very difficult to determine.”
This is not the first time Barrie Fire and Emergency Service has been called to what’s known locally as Milligan’s Pond.
Firefighters were at the 8.2-acre city park in early May, quickly extinguishing a blaze and preventing it from spreading.
Fire crews were also called to a blaze Sept. 8 at the Berczy Park homeless encampment. No injuries were reported.
