Forklift stolen. Bracebridge man charged with impaired driving

BRACEBRIDGE - Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a complaint of a stolen forklift from an address on Highway 118 East in Bracebridge on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. Officers attended the scene and the investigation revealed that the vehicle had been used to cause damage to several nearby properties as it had been driven off road, damaging trees and terrain and pulling down overhead wires. The vehicle was located driving along Highway 118 East.

Officers conducted a traffic stop and subsequently arrested and charged 20-year-old Kristofer Courtnage of Bracebridge, Ont. with the following offenses:

    •    Impaired driving CC 253(1)(a)
    •    Over 80 CC 253(1)(b)
    •    Theft over $5,000 CC334(a)
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime CC354(1)(a)
    •    Mischief over $5,000 CC430(3)
    •    Mischief under $5,000 CC430(4) (x4)
    •    Possession of schedule II substance CDSA 4(1)

The accused was held in custody and appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on June 26, 2017.
