A vehicle crash into a residential gas line has prompted authorities to evacuate homeowners in the north end of Barrie, Sunday night.

Fire crews got the call at 7:10 p.m. on June 2, and dispatched two trucks to the scene on Grove Street East.

Deputy Fire Chief Carrie Clark told BarrieToday they have evacuated a circular area around the strike site, which includes Grove Street East, Owen Street, and more.

Police are assisting with the road closures.

“The gas company was on scene at 8:10 p.m., and are working to contain the gas line at this time,” she added.

It is unknown at this time how long the evacuation will last.

Police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday they have “an ongoing criminal investigation underway.”
