BRADFORD - In the early morning hours on Friday, March 30 South Simcoe Police were called to a residential fire at a home in Bradford. Bradford Fire and Emergency Services were quickly able to extinguish the fire.

The fire appears to have started on the exterior of the residence at the electrical meter. It was observed during the course of the fire investigation that there was a small marijuana grow operation within the house.

This operation involved the use of numerous extension cords to power the equipment required to grow the marijuana plants. This set up may have contributed to the cause of the fire.

A 25-year-old Bradford male has been charged with one count of Possession and one count of Production under the Controlled Drugs and Substances. All of the drugs and equipment were seized by police.

The Electrical Safety Authority attended to investigate and will report upon the cause of the fire. The residence did not sustain a significant amount of damage.

Police want to remind people that with the proposed legislation to legalize marijuana coming into effect soon, there comes with it a responsibility with a decision to grow. Growing marijuana in a residence or dwelling-house carries with it a risk. Ensure that all safe-guards are in place to protect your property and your family.
