Just hours following his release, the man Barrie police called a “habitual offender” was arrested yet again after allegedly being found possessing stolen goods taken from the same convenience store near Anne Street North and Dunlop Street West.

Police initially arrested the man — who they say is 41 years old and of no fixed address — early Monday morning. Since Oct. 10, he has been charged with theft under $5,000 six times, as well as fail to comply with probation and fail to comply with an undertaking in relation to thefts that took place at the store.

Around 10:40 p.m. last night (Oct. 21), an officer on patrol in the area of the same convenience store observed the same man, who was known to him, walking through the parking lot of the convenience store, which also serves as a retail gas station and car wash, according to Peter Leon, the department’s communications coordinator.

When stopped, the accused was found to be in possession of alcohol and some food items that police then confirmed had just been stolen.

The man was also breaching a probation order, a number of previous undertakings and the most recent release order that he entered into yesterday afternoon.

He was arrested again and taken to Barrie Police Headquarters where the investigation continued, noted Leon.

As a result of the most recent theft-related investigation, the accused has been charged with theft under $5,000, failure to comply with an undertaking, failure to comply with a release order, and failure to comply with a probation order.

He has been held in custody and is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing today, by video, with the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie.
