High speeds lead to stunt driving charges

An officer observed a motorcycle travelling at a high rate of speed. Upon further investigation, this motorcycle was found to be travelling 160 km/h in a 100 km/hr zone

On Sept. 4, 2017 at approximately 11:12 a.m. an officer from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 400 northbound in Georgian Bay Township, Ont. when he observed a motorcycle travelling at a high rate of speed.

Upon further investigation, this motorcycle was found to be travelling 160 km/h in a 100 km/hr zone which lead the officer to stop the motorcycle on Highway 400 near Crooked Bay Road in Georgian Bay Township.

As a result of the traffic stop, the male driver, Michael Grady (age 45) of Seguin, Ont. is charged with:

  • Speeding 50 plus km/hr over the posted limit contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Stunt driving by excessive speed contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on October 5, 2017 in Penetanguishene, Ontario.

In addition, his vehicle was impounded for seven days and his driver's licence was suspended for seven days.
