A veteran officer with the Barrie Police Service is facing a charge of misconduct under the Police Services Act.
On Thursday, the local department announced Insp. Kevin McLean has been charged with misconduct contrary to Section 80(1)(a) of the Police Services Act, R.S.O. 1990, following an investigation conducted by the Ontario Provincial Police's Professional Standards Bureau.
That section of the Act relates to "an offence described in a prescribed code of conduct."
McLean has been an officer with city police for 26 years.
When contacted by BarrieToday, Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon said he was unable to elaborate on the nature of the charge as it is now working its way through the proper legal channels.
A tribunal hearing, to be held virtually, has been set for March 4.
McLean has been reassigned to "alternative duties" pending the outcome of the Police Services Act proceedings.
In a news release, Barrie police say an allegation was received by Barrie Police Chief Kimberley Greenwood late last year in regards to an alleged on-duty internal incident.
After receiving the complaint, Greenwood requested assistance from the OPP to conduct the investigation.
“When an allegation against an officer is received, it is taken very seriously," Greenwood said in the release. "When necessary, to ensure transparency and accountability within the community, a request is made for another police service to conduct investigations of this nature.
"The Barrie Police Service holds its members accountable while on duty and off duty and recognizes that public trust and confidence is a cornerstone of policing," the chief added.
