Man, 61, drowns after falling off paddle board at Wasaga

A man has died after drowning at Wasaga Beach on the weekend. 

Huronia West OPP responded to an emergency call on Sunday, June 16 around 1:50 p.m. for a reported drowning off the shore of Allenwood Beach, east of the Nottawasaga River in Wasaga Beach. 

A man had been seen falling off a paddle board and then attempting to swim to shore. 

"The individual was reportedly no longer visible in the water after their paddle board was blown away," stated a police release. 

Police say the 61-year-old was found at about 2 p.m., submerged in the water. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased. 

The OPP responded to the call with the marine unit, helicopters and Wasaga Beach Fire and Rescue. 

Police are reminding people to wear life-jackets or personal flotation devices when on the water in any kind of vessel.
