A man has been arrested following an "indecent act" in downtown Barrie last week.

On Thursday, July 11, at 5:23 p.m., officers responded to a Collier Street address after a man was reportedly engaged in an “inappropriate act that was being conducted in the clear view of anyone who was in the immediate area,” according to Barrie police this morning.

Police later confirmed to BarrieToday the suspect was masturbating.

A 35-year-old man, of no fixed address, was located, arrested and transported to police headquarters on Fairview Road where police determined he was also breaching an existing probation order.

The man was charged with performing an indecent act in a public place and failure to comply with a probation order.

Police said he was held for a bail hearing, remanded into custody, and is scheduled to appear next, by video, in a Barrie courtroom on Wednesday.

“The Barrie Police Service would like to thank the concerned citizen who observed the activity that was taking place and courageously reported it,” police added.
