A Thornhill man has been charged after provincial police say he passed an officer while driving nearly double the speed limit Saturday on Highway 11 in Huntsville.

At 9:45 p.m. on Nov. 23, Bracebridge OPP says the officer was on patrol on Highway 11 North in the area of South Mary Lake Road when a driver passed the cruiser well in excess of the 100-km/h limit.

Islam Herzallah, 25, has been charged with operation while impaired, operation while impaired (blood-alcohol concentration 80-plus), stunt driving, and being a novice driver with a blood-alcohol concentration above zero. He has a Dec. 17 court date in Bracebridge.

None of the allegations have been tested in court.
