Man faces several charges following traffic stop

TAY TOWNSHIP - On Aug. 28, 2017 at approximately 9:06 p.m., a member of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a vehicle on Highway 12 in Tay Township, Ont. for a traffic violation.

During the vehicle stop the officer determined that the male driver had been consuming alcohol and subsequently conducted a roadside test. A further police check of this individual revealed that his driver's licence was under suspension.

As a result of further investigation, the driver, Johnathan Latour, age 43 of Tay Township, Ont., is charged with:

  • Adult driving while ability impaired - Motor vehicle, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Adult driving with more than 80 mgs. of alcohol in blood, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Adult driving while under suspension, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Adult fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Adult fail to have insurance card, contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act
  • Adult drive motor vehicle no validation on permit, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Adult driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor, contrary to the Liquor Licence Act

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on Sept. 7, 2017 in Midland, Ont. and received an automatic 90 day driver's licence suspension and had his vehicle towed and impounded.
