A 39-year-old Barrie man was released from custody late Sunday night and provided a few souvenirs from Barrie Police – a $65 public intoxication ticket and a summons to court.

Police can only assume the male had built up an appetite after he had been arrested and spent a few hours in the slammer. Upon being released from custody, he stopped into a north-end sports bar, where he indulged in a meal and a few drinks.

(It is alleged that) he attempted to sneak out without paying, but was confronted by staff. The male offered to leave his public intoxication ticket and court summons behind as proof he would be back to pay.

There was no need to leave an I.O.U – police were called and the male was arrested and charged a second time with fraudulently obtaining food.

Prior to his second arrest, the male had been at a downtown restaurant earlier that night and had ordered several drinks for him and a lady friend. Eventually the unknown woman left and he stayed behind and continued ordering drinks.

Once cut-off, the male (allegedly) attempted to leave without paying and when confronted by staff, he fled the restaurant on foot. He was later located by police at the Maple Avenue bus terminal and arrested and transported to the station and charged with public intoxication and fraudulently obtaining food.

The moral of the story – court documents are only accepted at local court houses!
