Barrie Police Service was called by the Royal Bank of Canada after they were alerted of a fraudulent transaction where a male had (allegedly) provided false identification to obtain an account at their Barrie location.
On Thursday, March 22, 2018 Barrie Police received a call from the bank manager at the Royal Bank located at 405 Bayfield St., in the City of Barrie, in regards to a male who was on scene attempting to obtain a bank draft.
The accused had provided the bank with various forms of identification for a male from out of province, opening a line of credit with the bank. The accused had withdrawn two large amounts of money and used them to purchase various quantities of gold bars from the Hock Shop located at 400 Bayfield St., in the City of Barrie.
The bank manager received information that the male may be presenting false identification and upon attending the bank a third time to withdraw funds from the line of credit, the police were called to investigate further.
Upon arresting the male, the identification of three males were found in his possession. He was positively identified and held at the Barrie Police Service for a bail hearing Friday morning.
A 34-year-old male from Surrey, British Columbia has been charged with:
- Fraud over $5,000 x2
- Attempt fraud over $5,000
- Identity fraud
- Identity theft
