A Parry Sound man spent some time in a cell at Barrie police headquarters after he was seen "dangerously running and falling down in the middle of Dunlop Street West" on Sunday morning.

Barrie police received the call around 1:10 a.m. on Dec. 1 about a man located west of the on-ramp to southbound Highway 400.

Police say responding officers found the man, who was "very intoxicated, leaning against a light post near Cedar Pointe Drive," according to a news release.

After speaking with him, police say officers realized he did not have a plan to get back home.

"For his safety, police placed him under arrest for being intoxicated in a public place," states the release.

The 42-year-old man was transported to Barrie police headquarters on Fairview Drive where he remained until he could be safely released, police say.

Upon his release several hours later, he was issued a Provincial Offences Notice. The fine associated for this offence under the Liquor Licence Contral Act is $65 and includes a $15 victim of crime surcharge.
