Noteworthy driving offences from Jan. 26 to 28

Midland, ON - Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) interacted with numerous motorists over the January 26-28, 2018 period with some noteworthy traffic incidents of interest.

Impaired Driving:

Jan. 27, as a result of drinking and driving investigation at an R.I.D.E. check stop on Highway 12 at Triple Bay Road in Tay Township Brad Fisher, 27-years-old, of Tay Township was arrested and charged with the following drinking and driving offence.

CC 253(1) (b) Driving with More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood contrary to section 253(1) (b) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

His vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded for seven days and further his driver's license is suspended for 90 Days under the Administrative Driver's License Suspension (ADLS) and was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland at a future date

Suspended Drivers:

Jan. 26, as a result of a traffic violation and ensuing investigation on Highway 12 in Tay Township David Leduc 57-years-old, of Tay Township lost his driving privileges for three days and had his vehicle towed as a result of registering over 50 mg on the approved screening device.

He was charged with the following offences,

  • HTA 130 Careless driving contrary to section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act
  • HTA 154(1) (a) Unsafe move - lane or shoulder contrary to section 154(1) (a) of the Highway Traffic Act.
  • HTA 7(1) (c) (i) Drive motor vehicle, validation improperly affixed contrary to section 7(1) (c) (i) of the Highway Traffic Act.

Jan. 27, a R.I.D.E. check traffic investigation at Highway 12 and Pine Street in Tay Township resulted in 49-year-old Kevin Mackey of Tay Township charged with Drive While under Suspension contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

Jan. 28, an officer conducting radar speed enforcement on Highway 12 near Reeves Road in Tay Township stopped a vehicle for a speeding infraction of 138 km/hr in an 80 km/hr zone. Russell Tucker, 20-years-old, of Tay Township was suspended from driving for seven days as well as his vehicle was impounded for seven days and was summoned to the Ontario Court of Justice Provincial Division in Penetanguishene at a future date.

R.I.D.E. Checks:

A total of seven R.I.D.E. check stops locations were set up across Tiny, Tay and Georgian Bay Townships and the Town of Penetanguishene resulting in over 150 drivers checked for drinking and driving offences.
