One dead after snowmobile hits tree

GEORGIAN BAY TOWNSHIP - On Mar. 17, 2017 at approximately 1:10 a.m., members of the Bracebridge Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Georgian Bay Fire Department and Muskoka Paramedic Service were dispatched to a trail outside of the Town of Mactier in Georgian Bay Township to a collision involving a motorized snow vehicle that struck a tree.

An OPP initial investigation into this collision revealed that two males were riding a snowmobile and for a yet to be determined reason struck a tree.

Deceased is the operator a Matthew Lusk, age 34 from Georgian Bay Township.

The passenger a 31-year-old male from Georgian Bay Township was transport to hospital with serious injuries.

The investigation into this collision is ongoing with the assistance of the OPP Central Region Technical Traffic Collision Investigation (T.T.C.I.) Unit.
