An early morning incident involving a violent attempted Jeep theft left one man stabbed, another struck by vehicle on Monday, shortly after 2 a.m., at the southeast corner of Cundles Road East and Sperling Drive in Barrie.

One man suffered "multiple stab wounds" and another was struck by a vehicle in a violent early morning incident involving an attempted Jeep theft.

Shortly after 2 a.m. on Monday, Barrie police say they responded to a plaza at the southeast corner of Cundles Road East and Sperling Drive after receiving information someone had been struck and possibly run over by a vehicle.

Upon arrival at the scene, police learned that two men who had been outside of a business in the plaza were involved in an "isolated but violent interaction" with a group of men who attempted to steal a Jeep, which was parked in the parking lot.

According to police, a man came out from inside of the business to help and he was struck by a car, while one of the initially involved men was stabbed.

The injured men were transported to a local hospital, while the other was later transported to a Toronto trauma centre to be treated for stab wounds.

Police say the investigation is in its early stages and is being investigated by detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division, who are being assisted by the service’s forensic identification unit.

Police said further details will be provided "only as the investigation permits."
