BarrieToday received the following statement from OPP Const. Patrick Chatelain, who was injured on Saturday during a traffic stop in the Peel Region

MISSISSAUGA, ON - On the morning of Sept. 4, 2017, while engaged in what at first appeared to be a 'routine' traffic stop, I ended up being injured.

As a police officer and a paramedic, I have been a part of many traumatic events in my careers, but never as the patient. This was a truly terrifying event, made better by the collective efforts of the bystanders, Mississauga Firefighters, and the staff at both Sunnybrook Hospital and later Credit Valley Hospital.

I am grateful for the care I received by my fellow paramedics of Peel Regional Paramedic Services.

I also wanted to thank the amazing efforts and diligent work by my fellow officers at Peel Regional Police, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Port Credit OPP Detachment and my platoon mates.

My family and I would like to thank our friends, colleagues and the members of the public who have reached out with warm messages of support.

I have started on the road to recovery and look forward to once again putting on the uniform and serving our neighbours.

Thank you

Provincial Constable Patrick Chatelain
