Plea hearing in Collingwood murder trial set for December

Orillia man accused of murdering Kay Kriston scheduled to appear in Barrie court Dec. 14

A date has been chosen for what could be the resolution of the murder trial for the man accused of killing a Collingwood woman last year.

During a pre-trial court appearance Thursday morning (Oct. 26), the Crown and lawyers for Orillia resident John Collins agreed to come before Justice Michelle Fuerst again on Dec. 14, in-person to a Barrie courtroom for a plea hearing.

Collins, who was 57 when he was arrested, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Collingwood real estate agent Kinga 'Kay' Kriston.

The 55-year-old woman was found dead in her Georgian Meadows home on Friday, June 10, 2022.

Collins was not in court on Thursday, as the matter was handled by his legal team and representatives from the Crown attorney's office.

The details of the pre-trial court appearances are subject to a publication ban.

None of the allegations have been proven in court.
