A 68-year-old Kitchener man is facing theft charges after a truck and trailer containing $26,000 worth of walnuts were stolen from a Cambridge business last December.

Police said on Nov. 5, 2023, the truck and trailer full of nuts were taken from the yard of a business in the area of Eagle Street North and Hespeler Road in Cambridge.

The trailer containing the stolen walnuts was recovered in Milton by Halton Regional Police Service on Dec. 13, 2023, and returned to the business.

Then on Dec. 29, 2023, the walnuts were stolen from the trailer.

In February 2024, Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) investigators, with assistance from the Hamilton Police Service, recovered some of the stolen walnuts, valued at approximately $11,000.

WRPS made their arrest Oct. 17 following a lengthy investigation, charging the man with possession of stolen property over $5,000.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 27, 2024.

Police continue to investigate another nut theft that happened in Waterloo region earlier this year.

On Jan. 20 at around 9:30 p.m., unknown suspects stole a transport truck and a trailer loaded with pistachios from the yard of a business located in the area of Foundry Street and Gingerich Road in Wilmot Township.

The estimated value of the stolen pistachios is approximately $70,000.
