Police tape blocks off the area at Barrie's transient marina near Bayfield Street after a body was discovered in the water on June 12, 2024.

Barrie police are investigating after a man's body was located in the waters of Kempenfelt Bay in downtown Barrie early this morning.

Police were called to the foot of Bayfield Street at 5:34 a.m. on June 12 after getting a call reporting a body in the water in the city’s transient marina.

"It’s an ongoing investigation,” said Peter Leon, communications co-ordinator for Barrie police.

While details are slim, Leon did tell BarrieToday there is nothing at this point to suggest anything suspicious.

Police were called to the same area earlier this year, when emergency crews responded to a call shortly after 2 a.m. on March 9. A man was reported to be in the icy water near the government docks, however efforts to revive the man were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead.
