Police investigating homicide in downtown Bradford

Suspect surrendered to police and has been charged with second-degree murder; Police still trying to determine victim's identity

South Simcoe police officers are investigating a homicide in downtown Bradford that happened overnight.

At approximately 4:30 a.m., Sunday, police say they discovered a man in distress on Holland Street West in the area of Deer Run Street. 

Police say the man was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

The victim has not been identified and police are seeking the public's help to determine his identity. He is described as a white male, between 50 and 60 years old, heavy set, approximately six feet tall with a receding hairline, brown hair and facial stubble. He was wearing red shorts, white T-shirt, and white and black running shoes.

A male suspect has surrendered to police. He were taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder.

Police say the initial investigation determined the deceased man came to the aid of a young female involved in a violent altercation with the accused on Holland Street West. The female was taken to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.

Holland Street will remain closed between Toronto Street and Deer Run Crescent for several hours.
